Problem Statement
Throughout the past decade, this country has experienced an increase in violent behavior throughout all sectors of society. These shifts in behaviors have led to events across the nation including school shootings, and gun violence throughout the nation. Violence within homes has risen as well. In 2022, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services reported 39,224 instances of domestic violence victims in New York City, which constituted a 12 percent increase (4,297 instances) from 2021. In the rest of New York State, 49,598 instances were reported, a 2 percent from 2021 (an increase of 766). Our nation is failing by not addressing the root cause of the violence epidemic – Stress and Anger at the root (emotional level). Significant funding is not available for stress and anger management programs that are proven to effectively address and provide the skills necessary to avoid these compression factors. Effective interventions provide youth and adults a chance to speak about their emotions and identify and activate “release valves” before their behavior shifts to violence. Public Policy and funded programs address Domestic Violence, Gun Violence, Substance Use Disorder, and Mental Health after harmful behavior has presented. The CURB ANGER Program is unique in that it dedicates its services to community members who need them, without having to wait for appointments. They do not need to have a formal mental health or substance use disorder diagnosis to be able to see professionals before the need becomes extreme.
Resolution
Richard Medina Consulting Inc. created CURB ANGER, a Non-Clinical Crisis Intervention program and training courses designed to address these issues. While envisioning the components of an intense anger management program in the early 2000s, Richard Medina reflected on some of the concepts and realized that “Uncontrolled Anger is a compression factor that shifts behaviors to catastrophic events.” To be effective in working with people who have compressed emotions but will not conform or need severe mental health treatment, services must be provided without access barriers in locations where people reside and receive services. These programs and training were tested with the people in the most trying emotional state, including individuals incarcerated in Prison and participating in Reentry Organizations with proven effectiveness in creating enhanced emotional stability and reducing behavioral shifts by 96%. (based on direct service numbers) From a direct service numbers-based analysis, this demonstrates that nonclinical interventions are effective and work.
CURB Anger Is a program designed to address anger from a front-end, non-clinical approach. While common emotions are not listed as major health issues, we see that it is addressed once it becomes more of a problem. While millions of non-diagnosed people do not know how to effectively control anger or stress, they fall into these compression factor shifts. The result is billions of dollars each year in Medicaid and Health Services expenses and additional health problems. The CURB ANGER Program provides cost-effective methods without the need for mental health professionals or doctors, who frequently misdiagnose and delay interventions because their schedules are overbooked with more serious matters. As a result, non-diagnosed people frequently wait months to get an initial appointment to see a therapist or mental health professional.
We propose to create CURB Anger Services across New York State meeting people where they access services to not only address the problem but be part of the solution to this silent health crisis.
--We will provide services in both large and community-based organizations across the five boroughs within locations where people have access to public transportation.
-- We will provide services to NYC and NYS Professional service providers, including The NYC Police Department, MTA, Peace officers, School Teachers, etc.
--We will also utilize virtual platforms allowing people to log in to conduct group from anywhere, reaching people where they are.
CURB Anger will provide training to staff at organizations across New York State for them to continue to educate and service the population they serve, thereby incorporating inherent sustainability into the program design.
Programs will be providing Trainings and Group Sessions to include the following: Stress Management, Anger Management, Aggression Management, Conflict Resolution. Emotional Intervention, Attitude Adjustments. All curricula based.
Certificates of Participation will be provided upon completion of Group or Training service.
Letter of Attendance will be provided for Educational Seminar Service Requests.
Any person who may not need a certificate of completion may attend at any time.
CURE Anger is a program designed to meet the people where they are. We will provide Group Educational and Supportive Services, Trainings, and Educational Seminars services in all New York City Neighborhoods. In addition, Virtual (Zoom) meetings will provide a forum for serving people who are in New York State but are outside of City limits or not able to make it to groups in person. By meeting people where they are, we save thousands of dollars on office space because we will be where the people need us most, next to them.
Richard Medina Consulting Inc. will continue to actively seek direct funding, Contracts, and grants to maintain The CURB Anger Program.
We seek corporate sponsors to provide funding for the next expansion phase of the program to start in 2025. The intent is to create a National CURB Anger 501c3 Nonprofit Organization to continue the work implemented.
This Program is inclusive of all genders, religions, identities, and equality and will not tolerate discrimination in any way.
